STEP (STP) to DXF converter, free online
Convert a STEP or STP file to a 2D DXF of its front, top, side or isometric view, at 1:1 in millimetres. It's free, there's no account to make, and the file is never uploaded.
Drop a STEP or STP file here
STEP, STP, IGES or BREP, up to 1 GB. Converted in this browser: the file is never uploaded.
How to do it
- Choose the view: Front, Top, Right or Iso.
- Drop the STEP or STP file on the converter above, or choose it.
- The DXF downloads, and the converter shows you its lines. Choose another view to make that one from the same file.
For a view from any angle, or with some parts left out, open the file in the studio: turn the model or choose Front, Top, Right or Iso, hide the parts you don't want, choose Make drawing, then Export DXF.
What's in the DXF
- The drawing's lines at 1:1, in millimetres.
- Circles, arcs and ellipses as true curves, not chopped into short lines, so a hole is still a circle you can snap to.
- Visible lines and hidden lines on their own layers, with the hidden ones dashed.
- The AutoCAD 2007 DXF format, which AutoCAD and most 2D CAD programs open.
It holds the lines only. The title block, border, balloons and parts list stay on the SVG and PDF exports, and the DXF has no dimensions, because the drawing doesn't either.
Lengths measure true in a straight-on view
Front, top and right are straight-on views, so a length you measure in the DXF is the length on the part. An isometric view is foreshortened, as it is on paper, so use it for a picture, not for measuring.
It's a 2D drawing, not a 3D conversion
The DXF is a flat drawing of one view. It isn't a 3D model, and Lineplate doesn't write DWG. If you need a DWG, open the DXF in AutoCAD and save it as one.
Your file stays on your computer
The studio reads the STEP file and makes the drawing in your browser, with the Open CASCADE geometry kernel compiled to WebAssembly. Neither is sent to us or to anyone else. Security and your files says exactly what is and isn't sent.
Free, with no account
DXF export is on the free plan, with no watermark. The free plan keeps one file in your browser at a time and makes one drawing at a time, of up to 250 parts. Balloons, parts lists and step-by-step assembly manuals are on Pro.
