Terms of use
In force from 20 October 2026
1. Who we are
Lineplate (“the Service”) is provided by Galaxy Technology, a Scottish partnership of Lesley McCoy and Michael McCoy (“we”, “us”), 31 Priorwood Road, Newton Mearns, Glasgow G77 6ZZ, Scotland. Email hello@lineplate.com. We are not registered for VAT. These terms are the agreement between us and you, the business or person using the Service. They also cover our drawing service (“the drawing service”), where you send us a CAD file and we make the drawings for you; clause 18 sets out how that works and which other clauses apply to it.
2. Who can use what
- The free plan is open to anyone and needs no account. Using it means you accept these terms.
- Pro and Team are sold to businesses only: companies, and people buying for their trade, business or profession. Whoever sets up the account confirms that, and accepts these terms on behalf of the business named in it (“the customer”).
- Before buying, you tick “I'm buying for my business or trade, and I accept the Terms”. By ticking it you warrant that you are acting for purposes of your trade, business, craft or profession, and that the details you give us (business name, country and VAT number (if you give one)) are accurate. We rely on that when we set the price, the tax treatment and these terms.
- If that declaration is untrue, the customer will indemnify us for any tax, interest, penalties and reasonable costs we incur because of it, such as VAT that becomes due on the sale. This applies only to a false declaration, and the exclusions in clause 14 don't limit it.
- The drawing service is also for businesses only. By asking us to go ahead with a job, you confirm that you are acting for purposes of your trade, business, craft or profession (clause 18).
- If it turns out that a paid plan was bought by a consumer, we may close the subscription and refund what was paid for the time not yet used. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
3. What the Service is
A browser-based tool that reads CAD files and makes line drawings, illustrations, parts lists and manuals from them. It runs in your browser: your files, and the projects, drawings and documents made from them, are stored on your own device and are not sent to us. Security and your files explains exactly what is stored where. The drawing service (clause 18) is separate from the Service: there, you choose to send us a file.
The free plan makes drawings of up to 250 parts. We may change the free plan, or stop offering it, at any time.
4. Accounts, workspaces and users
- An account belongs to one named person, who signs in with a link emailed to them. The person who sets up a workspace is its owner and manages its billing and members.
- A subscription is for a number of editors: one for Pro; 3 or more for Team. Each editor is a named person with their own sign-in, and seats may not be shared. Reviewers on Team are free.
- The customer is responsible for the people it invites, for what they do in the Service, and for keeping their email accounts secure, because that is how they sign in.
5. Subscriptions, prices and payment
- Pro and Team are paid in advance, monthly or yearly, through our payment processor, Stripe, after any free trial (below). Prices are shown before you buy. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until it is cancelled.
- We are not registered for VAT, so we don't charge it: the price shown is the price you pay. If we register for VAT, we will tell you at least 30 days before we start charging it on a renewal. If a business in the EU gives us its VAT number, we check it with the EU's VIES service, and the business accounts for any VAT itself under the reverse charge.
- We may change our prices. A new price applies to a subscription from its next renewal, and only if we have told you at least 30 days before that renewal. You can cancel before it takes effect.
- A subscription bought by card starts when Stripe confirms the first payment, or, with the free trial below, when you finish checkout; one paid by invoice starts when we send the first invoice after you accept our quote. Stripe's checkout page shows the plan, the price and your details before you pay, and lets you correct them. We don't keep a copy of these terms for each customer, so save or print the version you accept; they are in English only.
- Free trial. Pro, monthly or yearly, can start with a 14-day free trial, one per account: a workspace that has already had a subscription or a trial doesn't get another. Team has no trial. Stripe takes your card details at checkout, and nothing is charged during the trial. The first payment, at the price shown at checkout, is taken on day 15 unless you cancel before then. If you cancel during the trial, you pay nothing, and Pro stops when the trial ends.
- Team can also be paid by invoice and bank transfer, on the payment terms in the quote.
- If a renewal payment fails, the paid features stop until it is paid. Your projects are not affected: they are in your browser, on every plan.
6. Cancelling and refunds
- The owner can cancel at any time in the billing page linked from the account page. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the plan keeps working to the end of the period already paid for.
- Cancelling during a free trial means you are never charged for it; the trial runs to its end and then stops.
- We don't refund part of a period when you cancel, except where these terms say so (clauses 2, 11, 12 and 15) or the law requires it.
- You can delete your account from the account page. Deleting it doesn't cancel a subscription, so cancel that first.
7. Your licence to use the Service, and our rights in it
While you keep to these terms, we give you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service: on the free plan within its limits, and on a paid plan for the editors paid for. Most paid features run in your browser; a subscription is the licence to use them, and using them without one is outside these terms.
We, and our licensors, own the Service: its software, design and content. Apart from clause 10 (open-source components), these terms don't give you any other rights in it. If you send us suggestions, we may use them freely, with no obligation to you.
8. Your content and your documents
- You own your CAD files and everything the Service makes from them. We claim no rights in either, and the Service never sends them to us. Files you send us for the drawing service are covered by clause 18.
- You confirm that you have the right to use the files you open in the Service.
- Keep your own copies. Browser storage can be lost if the browser's data is cleared, the device fails or the browser frees space, and we hold no copy to restore it from.
- The Service is a drafting aid. You are responsible for the accuracy, completeness and legal adequacy of any manual, instructions, safety information or other document you make with it, including whether it meets any machinery, product-safety or other law that applies to your products.
- Drawings can contain errors: a missing or extra line, a part in the wrong place, an approximated curve. Have every drawing checked by a competent person before you publish or rely on it.
9. No claims about compliance
We don't claim that the Service, or anything it makes, meets any law, regulation or standard. Where our pages or guides mention a regulation or a standard, that is general information, not legal or professional advice.
10. Open-source components
The Service includes open-source software, listed with its licences on open-source notices. Nothing in these terms restricts the rights those licences give you.
In particular, the geometry kernel uses Open CASCADE Technology under the GNU Lesser General Public License 2.1. You may modify that library, and the kernel built from it, for your own use, and you may reverse-engineer the Service to the extent needed to debug such modifications.
11. Acceptable use, suspension and ending a subscription
Don't use the Service to break the law or infringe anyone's rights, to attack or overload it, to get around its plan limits or seat counts, or to interfere with other people's use of it. Clause 10 is not affected by this.
- If you seriously break these terms, we may suspend the account. If the breach can be put right, we will first tell you and give you 14 days to do so. If it isn't put right, or can't be, we may end the subscription without a refund.
- We may also end a subscription for any other reason by giving 60 days' notice. We then refund the part of a paid period that hasn't been used.
- When a subscription ends, the paid features stop. Your projects stay in your browser and the free plan keeps working.
12. Availability, changes and closing the Service
We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill. We don't promise it will always be available or free of faults. We may change it, but a paid plan won't lose a main feature during a period already paid for.
If we decide to close the Service, or a paid plan, we will email every account owner at least 60 days before it closes, and refund the part of any paid period that runs past the closing date. Because the Service works in your browser, your projects and exports stay on your devices.
13. Personal data
Our privacy notice says what personal data we hold and why. For account data (the email addresses and roles of the customer's users, and its billing details) we act as an independent controller. The Service never sends us the customer's CAD files, projects or drawings, so through it we process none of the personal data that may be in them. Files sent to us for the drawing service are used only for that job (clause 18), as the privacy notice describes. If you need a written statement of this for your records, ask at privacy@lineplate.com.
14. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Subject to that, neither of us is liable to the other for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill or data, business interruption, or the cost of recalling, reworking or re-documenting products. This doesn't affect the customer's duty to pay for its subscription, or its indemnity for a false declaration in clause 2.
Subject to that, and apart from the drawing service, whose limit is in clause 18, our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or in connection with the Service or these terms is limited to the total fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, and the date at the top will change. If a change is to your disadvantage, we will email account owners at least 30 days before it applies to them. If you don't accept it, you can cancel before then, and we will refund the part of a paid period that hasn't been used. Changes don't apply to anything that happened before them.
16. General
- Neither of us is liable for a delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
- We may transfer this agreement to whoever takes over the Service, and will tell you if we do. You may transfer it only with our agreement.
- These terms, with the prices and any quote we gave you, are the whole agreement between us about the Service. If part of them is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
- No one other than you and us has any right to enforce these terms.
- We send notices to the email address of the workspace's owner. Send yours to hello@lineplate.com.
17. Law and courts
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and the courts of Scotland have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute about them. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK where you live, and its mandatory consumer protections still apply to you.
If something goes wrong, please write to us first. Most problems can be put right by email.
18. The drawing service
In the drawing service you send us a CAD file of an assembly (STEP, IGES or BREP) and we make technical drawings from it with the Service: hidden-line drawings, exploded views and step-by-step assembly drawings with balloons and a parts list, as PDF, SVG and PNG files. Assembly drawings, drawn for you describes it. Clauses 1, 2, 9, 13, 16 and 17 apply to it, and so do the first two paragraphs of clause 14; the rest of these terms are about the Service and don't.
- The job. You email us the file, or a link to it, and say what the drawings are for. We reply with a fixed price and a date, and draw one view first, free, so you can judge the style. The job starts when you approve it by email; the price and what it covers are as we agreed by email. It includes one round of changes to the drawings. A revised model, or drawings beyond what we agreed, is a new job at a new price.
- Payment. We send the final files and a Stripe invoice when the job is delivered, payable within 14 days. We are not registered for VAT, so the price agreed is the price you pay. Nothing is payable before delivery: if you call the job off before we deliver it, or we can't deliver it, you owe us nothing.
- Your responsibility. You are responsible for the content, accuracy, safety warnings and regulatory compliance of any manual or other document the drawings are used in. We draw what your CAD model shows. We don't check, verify or approve the design, its assembly sequence or its safety, and we don't write safety warnings or instructions. We make no claim that the drawings, or any document they are used in, meet any law, regulation or standard, such as the EU Machinery Regulation, S1000D or ATA specifications. Check the drawings before you publish or rely on them.
- Your files. You warrant that you have the right to send us the files and to have drawings made from them. We use them only for your job, never share them, and delete them, with our working copies, 30 days after delivery (or, if the job doesn't go ahead, 30 days after we last hear from you). If you need us to sign a non-disclosure agreement first, send it with your request.
- The drawings are yours. Ownership of the intellectual property in the drawings we deliver passes to you when you pay the invoice. We don't use them, or your model, as examples of our work without your written permission.
- Liability. Subject to the first paragraph of clause 14, our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or in connection with a drawing job is limited to the price of that job. If a drawing doesn't match your model, tell us and we will correct it.
